This May, we’re thrilled to feature an in-depth interview with Zhi Ming, our esteemed Senior Artist at Mineloader Studios, who has been with us for an impressive decade. Zhi Ming shares his insights on leadership, the evolution of game art, and his personal growth within our creative family.
Mineloader: What does your role as a Lead Artist entail?
Zhi Ming: As the Lead Artist, my main responsibility is to ensure that our team moves in the direction set by our producers and clients. I monitor our progress daily and address any issues that arise promptly to keep everyone on track and ensure our outputs meet high standards. Part of my job is also about identifying and nurturing talent within the team, making sure we all grow together.
Mineloader: How have you seen the game art industry change over the years?
Zhi Ming: The industry has transformed dramatically. When I started, the entry barriers were quite high due to the sophisticated skills required and the rudimentary nature of tools. Nowadays, advancements like Substance Painter and Marvelous Designer have simplified many tasks, allowing even those without a traditional art background to make significant contributions. The technology has democratized access to game art creation, which is fantastic for fostering new talent.
Mineloader: Can you describe your experience working at Mineloader?
Zhi Ming: Absolutely. Working at Mineloader has been like being part of a big, supportive family. We share knowledge, experience, and grow together. It’s a collaborative environment where everyone is eager to help and learn from each other. We’ve tackled numerous challenges, which have only made working here more rewarding. Witnessing and contributing to our growth from a small team to over 200 professionals has been a profound journey.
Mineloader: What advice would you give to those starting a career in game art?
Zhi Ming:
- Love Your Craft: Passion for games or art is essential—it motivates you to continuously improve.
- Endurance and Patience: This is not an easy career path. It demands constant learning and resilience.
- Observational Skills: Paying close attention to the world around you—everything from nature to architecture—can enhance your artistic perspective.
- Health and Well-being: Especially for younger artists living away from home, it’s crucial to maintain healthy living habits. Taking care of your body and mind is just as important as developing your professional skills.
Mineloader: Any parting words for our readers this May?
Zhi Ming: Embrace the challenges and changes with a willing heart and mind. Always stay curious, be resilient, and never stop pushing the boundaries of your creativity. Let’s keep inspiring each other and making incredible art.
Join us in celebrating Zhi Ming’s decade of dedication and artistic leadership at Mineloader Studios, as we look forward to many more years of innovation and creativity in the game art industry.
